What is a WCJCS Forum?

WCJCS Forums provide an electronic "meeting place" for professionals in various fields of Jewish communal work around the world. Forums are used to exchange both points of view and information. Information may be sent directly or as an attachment, and can be archived. All WCJCS Forums can be accessed through the WCJCS Website. Each active Forum has its own moderator.

You do not have to be a member of the Council in order to participate.

The Aleph-Bet of Forum Participation

1. Registration: New visitors must register to the WCJCS Forums. Your one-time registration gives you access to all the Forums. Once registered, you will receive a username, password, and personal Forum Mailbox where you'll be able to access any personal messages sent to you by Forum participants.

After you register, you can click the "Subscribe to WCJCS Listservs" icon on the top of the page to mark all listserv topics you are interested in joining. This will enroll you in all of the listservs you have checked. Listservs are used by the Forum Moderator to inform members of important additions to the Forum, such as new discussion topics or attached documents. You may also participate in any of the Forums you do not enroll in, but you will not be not be included in its listserv unless enrolled.

To register, click on To WCJCS Forums and then on the "Register" button on the top of the page and follow the instructions.

2. Participation: Once inside the Forum, you'll be able to read the messages already displayed under one or another "Topic" and enter your own input. This may be in the form of opinion, experience and/or relevant attachments such as papers, reports, research data, etc.

You can also add a new topic for discussion, by clicking on the "New Topic" button on the left of the screen.

The great advantage of Forum systems is that the correspondence on them is done off-line; you do not have to be connected to the Internet at the same time as other professionals, in order to see what they have written or while creating your response.

3. Role of the Moderator: The Forum moderator is responsible for keeping each Forum alive and active so long as members remain interested. All messages may be edited by the Forum moderator. This guards against the potential for inappropriate use of the Forum or invasion. A number of Jewish forums on other websites have reported concerted invasions from anti-Semitic sources.

Please keep checking the site for additional forums, which open as soon as Forum moderators are appointed.
