העם היהודי ויחסי ישראל-תפוצות:
תרחישים אפשריים וההתמודדות עימם

Seminar participants were engaged in lively facilitated group discussions about the important issues raised
115 Jewish communal professionals and volunteers from a broad range of Amutot in Israel participated in a one-day seminar organized by the WCJCS-Israel branch. The seminar was held on December 1, 2010 at the Maiersdorf Faculty Club of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in cooperation with the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) and explored various scenarios regarding the future of Israel and the Jewish people.
Dr. Einat Wilf, formerly a Senior Fellow at the JPPI and currently a Member of Knesset in the Labor party, presented key findings from the JPPI’s extensive study "2030: Alternative Futures for the Jewish People". Her thought provoking and insightful keynote presentation outlined the external and internal factors that affect the future of the Jewish people and what can be done to move towards the positive scenarios by strengthening engagement, Jewish identity and solidarity among Jewish communities.
Dr. Dov Maimon, Senior Fellow at the JPPI, made a captivating presentation outlining possible responses to the scenarios presented as well as recommendations made by the JPPI to the Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) in order to reinforce the bonds between Israel and worldwide Jewish communities, better engage the young generation, and strengthen Jewish identity.
The day's proceedings began with opening remarks by Avinoam Bar-Yosef, Founding Director of the JPPI and Arnon Mantver, Director General of JDC-Israel that set the stage for the presentations by emphasizing the importance of Israelis strengthening their connection with Jewish communities around the world.
The in depth presentations were followed by facilitated discussion groups providing an opportunity for participants to discuss their varied professional experiences in addressing the issues presented and to explore possible ways to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
Closing remarks were provided by Alan Hoffmann, JAFI’s Director General & CEO who outlined JAFI’s new strategic focus on engaging and connecting the young generation to Israel. He gave a hopeful message regarding the turning point we are at and how the challenges can be turned into opportunities for a bright future for the Jewish people. In summarizing the highly successful seminar, Leah Golan, Associate President of the WCJCS in Israel, pointed out that each participant has an important role to share the knowledge gained during the seminar with his/her colleagues and expand the realm of communal professionals in Israel and beyond who are aware of the challenges and strive to work together to brighten our collective future.
